Abstract

The Sephardim, most of whom settled in the Ottoman Empire in 1492, in smaller groups, having previously and later broken away from Sephardic lands, brought their language, literature and culture with them, and were able to preserve these religious and non-religious heritages in their new lives. Very soon after their settlement, the Jews brought the printing press to the Ottoman Empire and started to print religious books. However, due to the various depressions in the empire in general and in their own societies, they could not show their presence in press activities as fast as in printing. This study provides a general overview of the Ottoman-Sephardi press from the first printing press established in the Ottoman Empire to the formation of Sephardi press life, from its golden age to its collapse, and includes some important Sephardi newspapers published in those years. The aim of this study is to reveal the differences between the periods, to draw attention to the Jewish publishing activities in important Ottoman cities, to the prominent Sephardi newspapers and journalists, and of course to the contribution of the Sephardi press to the ethnic-cultural richness of the Ottoman press.

Osmanlı Sefaradi Basınına Hızlı Bir Bakış

Abstract

Çok büyük bir bölümü 1492 yılında, daha küçük gruplar halinde daha önce ve sonrasında da Sefarad topraklarından kopup Osmanlı İmparatorluğuna yerleşen Sefaradiler dillerini, edebiyatlarını ve kültürlerini de beraberlerinde getirmiş, yeni yaşamlarında da bu dini ve din dışı miraslarını koruyabilmişlerdir. Yahudiler, yerleştikten çok kısa bir süre sonra Osmanlıya matbaayı getirmiş ve dini kitap basmaya başlamışlardır. Fakat, imparatorluğun genelindeki ve kendi toplumlarındaki çeşitli buhranlar sebebiyle basın faaliyetlerinde matbaacılıktaki kadar hızlı varlık gösterememişlerdir. Bu çalışmada Osmanlıda kurulan ilk matbaadan Sefaradi basın hayatının oluşumuna, altın çağından çöküşüne dek Osmanlı-Sefaradi basını hakkında genel bir bilgi sunulmuş ve o yıllarda yayınlanmış bazı önemli Sefaradi gazetelerine yer verilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Osmanlı Sefaradi gazeteciliğine mercek tutarak dönemler arasındaki farklılıkları ortaya koymak, önemli Osmanlı şehirlerindeki Yahudi yayıncılık faaliyetlerine, öne çıkan Sefaradi gazetelerine ve gazetecilerine ve elbette Sefaradi basınının Osmanlı Basınının etnik-kültürel zenginliğine katkısına dikkat çekmektir.
