THE SCALE OF JEALOUSY IN SHAKESPEARE’S OTHELLO: THE MOOR OF VENICE

Year 2019, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 64 - 69, 29.12.2019

Abstract

Readings of Shakespeare’s works have reached to a number beyond imagination. Yet, as he purely processed primal emotions of human beings in his plays, he is still favoured. This paper takes one of these emotions on its focal point, which is jealousy. It seeks to provide its readers a scale on which meanings and reasons of jealousy are sprayed. On this scale, readers are invited to decide whether the source of meaning is fixed or dynamic. Based on social constructivist theory, the paper debates on the possibilities of varied meanings in societies which are diverse on the Earth.
