Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, fizyoterapistlerin enfeksiyon konusundaki bilgi düzeylerini, eğitim alma, korunma yöntemlerini uygulama durumlarını ve çalıştıkları yere göre farklılıkları
ortaya koymaktır.
Yöntemler: Çalışmaya 180 fizyoterapist (%64’ü kadın, %36’sı erkek) katıldı. Demografik
Purpose: The aim of this study was to present physiotherapists’ knowledge and education
about infections; application of protection methods; and the differences according to their
workplaces.
Methods: The study included 180 physiotherapists (64% female, 36% male). In addition to
demographic characteristics, graduated school, institutions which they were working and
professional experience were questioned. A 35-itemed questionnaire, developed by the authors was used to measure the knowledge and its using level of physiotherapists regarding
infection risks.
Results: 44% of them were working at hospitals, 33% in special education centers and 7%
in medical centers. 28 physiotherapists did not specify their institutions. 76% of physiotherapists from hospitals, 38% of physiotherapists from medical centers and, 36% of physiotherapists from special education centers had infection training. 14% of the questionnaire
respondents had transmission of infection from patients. There was significant differences
between physiotherapists who had and had not infection training, in aspects of using hygiene
products such as gloves, masks, disinfectants, and knowing when and for which patients to
use these products (p<0.05). There was a difference in favor of hospitals and medical centers
in infection transmission from patient, awareness about hospital-acquired infections unit
and wearing smocks, special clothing for special education centers when working with patients (p<0.05). There was also a difference in favor of hospitals in receiving infection train-
ing and using this information; vaccination; using hygiene products; presence of infection
control committee and cooperation with these committees (p<0.05).
Discussion: This study indicates the necessity of training physiotherapists about infection
risks.
