2022 QATAR WORLD CUP GOAL ANALYSİS: A STUDY ON GROUP STAGE PERFORMANCE

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the goals scored and conceded in the group stage of the World Cup organization held in Qatar in 2022 according to various parameters.In the 2022 World Cup organized by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) in Qatar, a total of 32 teams participated in 8 groups consisting of four teams. The 32 teams competing in the group stage constitute the sample group for the research. The goals scored and conceded during the group stage of the tournament were analyzed according to the type and zone of the goal kick, the time intervals of the match. The normality of the data obtained from the analysis was examined using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The homogeneity of variances was checked using the Levene test. The difference between analysis data of the teams qualifying to the upper round and eliminating from the tournament was analyzed using the independent samples t-test and Mann Whitney U test. According to the analysis results, it was determined that the teams qualifying to the upper round conceded fewer goals from organized attacks and free kicks while they scored more goals by organized attacks (p<0.05). It was seen that the teams qualifying upper round scored more goals and conceded fewer goals in the second half of the matches compared to the teams eliminated from the tournament (p<0.05). When the 15-minute periods of the match were examined, it was determined that the teams qualifying to the upper round conceded the least number of goals in the 31-45 minutes interval constituting the last part of the first half of the match (p<0.05). Consequently, it can be said that the teams qualifying to the upper round have scored more goals by organized attacks due to have players with high technical capacity and prefer the pass game, while they conceded fewer goals from organized attacks and free kicks by effective team defense.

2022 KATAR DÜNYA KUPASI GOL ANALİZİ: GRUP AŞAMASINDAKİ PERFORMANSA YÖNELİK BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Abstract

2022 yılında Katar’da düzenlenen Dünya Kupası organizasyonunun grup aşamasında atılan ve yenilen gollerin çeşitli parametrelere göre analiz edilmesi, bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Uluslararası Futbol Federasyonları Birliği (FIFA) tarafından Katar’da düzenlenen 2022 Dünya Kupası organizasyonunda, dörder takımdan oluşan 8 grupta toplam 32 takım yer almıştır. Grup aşamasında mücadele eden 32 takım araştırmanın örneklem grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Turnuvanın grup aşaması boyunca atılan ve yenilen goller, oluş biçimine, gol vuruşunun yapıldığı bölgeye,müsabakanın zaman aralıklarına göre analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonucunda elde edilen verilerin normal dağılıma uygunluğu Shapiro-Wilk testi ile incelenmiştir. Varyans homojenliği Levene testi ile kontrol edilmiştir. Grup müsabakaları sonucunda üst tura yükselen ve turnuvadan elenen takımların analiz verileri arasındaki farklılık, ilişkisiz örneklemler için T-testi ve Mann Whitney-U testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, üst tura yükselen takımların organize hücum ve serbest atış sonucunda daha az sayıda gol yediği ve organize hücum sonucunda daha fazla sayıda gol attığı belirlenmiştir (p<0.05). Üst tura yükselen takımların turnuvadan elenen takımlara kıyasla müsabakaların ikinci yarısında daha fazla sayıda gol atıp daha az sayıda gol yediği görülmektedir(p<0.05). Müsabakanın 15 dakikalık bölümleri incelendiğinde ise üst tura yükselen takımların en az sayıda golü müsabakaların ilk yarılarının son bölümünü oluşturan 31-45 dk. aralığında yedikleri belirlenmiştir (p<0.05). Sonuç olarak, üst tura yükselen takımların teknik kapasitesi yüksek oyunculara sahip olmalarından ve pas oyununu tercih etmelerinden dolayı, organize hücumlar sonucunda daha fazla sayıda gol attıkları, etkili takım savunmasıyla organize hücumdan ve serbest vuruştan daha az sayıda gol yedikleri söylenebilir.
