Nationalization processes which take different forms across regions and historical periods are among widely studied topics in Political Science. When 15 new states achieved their independence as a result of the Soviet Union’s disintegration, those states proceeded to implement measures in order to consolidate their new independent status. After gaining its independence at the end of 1991, Kazakhstan put into effect a series of polices for the purpose of nationalization. Those policies whose effects can be observed on lives of people living in Kazakhstan in various areas including culture, art, education, politics and economics are essentially have the objective of creating a new society. It is still too early to come up with a definite conclusion about whether those polices are “successful” or not. The main purpose of this study is to analyze on-going nationalization policies in Kazakhstan, to evaluate those policies’ effects on different ethnic groups which form a significant portion of the country’s population and to scrutinize Kazakhstan’s pros and cons in achieving the goals which are being put forward in post-1991 period.
