Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Principles of Research and Publication Ethics

Scientific manuscripts submitted to IAUD should take into account the guidelines related to Scientific Research and Publication Ethics of Higher Education Institutions, ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) recommendations and COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) International Standards for Editors and Authors. Plagiarism, falsification or misrepresentation of data, duplication of publications, dividing publications, and the inclusion of people who have not contributed to the research among the authors are unacceptable practices within the ethical rules. Necessary legal actions will be taken in case of any ethical irregularities related to these and similar practices.

a) Plagiarism: It is considered plagiarism to present the original ideas, methods, data or works of others as one’s own work in whole or in part without proper attribution in accordance with scientific rules. In order to avoid plagiarism, authors should cite in accordance with scientific rules and pay attention to the citation of all scientific articles in their research.

b) Falsification of Data: Using non-existent or altered data in scientific research is considered as data falsification. Authors should collect their data within ethical rules and analyze them without subjecting them to any changes that may affect validity and reliability in the process.

c) Distortion: Changing the records or data obtained from the research, showing devices or materials that were not used in the research as if they were used, changing or shaping the results of the research in line with the interests of the people and organizations receiving support are considered within the scope of falsification. Authors should be honest, objective and transparent in the information they provide about the research process. They should avoid violating ethical rules.

d) Repetition of Publication: Presenting the same publication as separate publications without referring to previous publications is considered as publication duplication. The responsibility for the fact that the publications submitted for evaluation have been previously published elsewhere or are in the evaluation process lies entirely with the authors. Authors should avoid repetition and take care to submit original and unique research.

e) Divisional Publication: Dividing the results of a research into parts in a way that disrupts the integrity of the research and inappropriately and publishing them in more than one issue and presenting these publications as separate publications is considered within the scope of divisional publication. Authors should consider the integrity of the research and avoid divisions that will affect the results.

f) Authorship: Including people who have not contributed to the research or not including people who have contributed to the research is considered as unfair authorship. All authors must have contributed adequately to the planning, design, data collection, analysis, evaluation, preparation for publication and finalization of the research.

Ethics Committee Approval

“Ethics Committee Permission” is required for the following researches. Approved “Ethics Committee Permission” must be obtained from the institution where the author of the article is employed. Researches that require Ethics Committee permission are as follows:

– All kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from participants using survey, interview, focus group study, observation, experiment, interview techniques,
– Use of humans and animals (including materials/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes,
– Clinical trials in humans,
– Research on animals,
– Retrospective studies in accordance with the law on the protection of personal data,
Also;
– Stating that the “informed consent form” has been obtained in case presentations,
– Obtaining and indicating permission from the owners for the use of scales, questionnaires, photographs belonging to others,
– It is stated that copyright regulations are complied with for the intellectual and artistic works used.

In these articles, “Ethics Committee Permission” must be stated in the article. Articles should include a statement that Research and Publication Ethics are complied with.

Duties and Responsibilities

Author Responsibilities: It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that the manuscript conforms to scientific and ethical standards, therefore authors must guarantee that the manuscript is original, has not been previously published elsewhere, and is not under consideration for publication in another language. Copyrights should be respected and copyrighted material should be used with the necessary permissions. The work of other authors, contributors or references cited should be used appropriately and acknowledged in the references. All authors should directly contribute to the academic and scientific integrity of the manuscript; those who do not meet the criteria for authorship but have contributed should be acknowledged in the ‘acknowledgments’ section. Financial relationships, conflicts of interest and competition of interest must be declared. In studies involving a human element, it should be stated that ‘informed consent’ was obtained from the participants and ethics committee approval was obtained. The author should prepare and submit the manuscript strictly in accordance with the writing rules specified by the journal.

Editor’s Responsibilities: The editor-in-chief has the responsibility to ensure that manuscripts submitted for publication are evaluated impartially and treated fairly regardless of the ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religious beliefs, and political philosophy of the authors. The editor-in-chief ensures that reviewers adhere to the principles of impartiality by opposing conflicts of interest. He/she has full authority in the referee assignment process and is responsible for making the final decision on the articles to be published in the journal.

Responsibilities of Reviewers: Reviewers are expected to adhere to the principles of impartiality. They should not have any conflicts of interest with the authors or financial supporters of the research and should be impartial in their evaluations. Reviewers should ensure that all information about submitted manuscripts remains confidential and report to the editor if they encounter any problems such as copyright infringement or plagiarism. Care is taken to keep the identity of the referees confidential during the evaluation process and it is emphasized that the referees should not discuss the articles among the referees.
